Question by Lemon cake?: Skeptical on “free phones”?
My mom previously had tmobile and hated it, because of all the fees involved. So she refuses to get me any contract phones. I kind of got her to agree with the idea, but she said I’d have to get a free phone. I found one and she said no, because when companies say their free, they you’re really secretly paying for the phone when you pay for you bill. Is this true? My mom is so skeptical on almost everything, I don’t think I’m going to get a new phone because of that.

The contract fees are the same whether you get a free phone, a discounted phone or you bring your own phone to the party. Of course, the carriers are making their money back on the phones. However, you pay the same whether you get a phone or not.
If that bugs, go prepaid.
