X10 Huge Screen Phone With Android Like OS – Some Pros And Cons Plus Review
Article by Gregory R. Mulford
Hot on the heals of the China G2 “Android” phone comes the X10. So what makes this phone at all special?
This phone gets the moniker of “Android Like” because it tries to emulate how Android designed their icons layout, internal browsing, and general look and feel. Quick note, this phone does not use a true Android system as its internal chipset doesn’t have processors that have enough power. That being said, the X10 does have some nice things going for it.
First off, here are some basic specs.
It comes with quad band GSM unlocked network access. It has space for two SIM cards and allows dual standby. It is constructed out of Polycarbonate plastic (PCP).It sports a TFT 3.8 inch screen with a resolution of 320×480.It weighs 95 gm.It’s size comes in at (LxWxD) 114x57x14mm.Mobile internet can be accessed via EDGE/ GPRS/ WAP 2.0 and Wi-fi.A 3.5mm earphone jack is included.Touchscreen input plus a virtual QWERTY keyboard for browsing and text input.Standard use will net you 46~60 hours of battery life. The phone comes java enabled, allowing its designers to include java apps and games preinstalled, and also allows new ones to be installed.Media comes in the form of a 1.9MP camera, a camcorder, a eBook reader, analog TV, Bluetooth with A2DP, a FM radio, internet chat room programs, as naturally a MP3 player and MP4 player.
Here are a few pros and cons the X10 includes.
ProsThe “Android” system (though not real) does allow flexibility in creating a home page full of icons. The screen is a very impressive 3.8 inches, and is very clear and bright. Its pre installed java apps work very well, and include some very nice ones such as Google maps and Snaptu. It allows you to sync your phonebook, calendar and tasks.Internet came in strong and clear.Non proprietary earphone jacks that are 3.5mm are not that common and are nice to have.
ConsThough resembling the Android OS, it has almost none of the higher end functions. The built in email client takes a long time to set up correctly.
Not a smartphone or Google phone in any true sense of the word, the X10 still is a nice mobile phone that many will be happy to own.
